The history of Christ Church Grammar School.

History

Christ Church Grammar School opened in 1910 as the Christ Church Preparatory School, on a site at the corner of Queenslea Drive and Stirling Highway in Claremont.

Foundation 1910 - 1915

The school opened on 7 February 1910 in a single classroom. A little later two more classrooms were added and the strip of land to College Avenue was obtained.

Mr SC Noake and Prefects 1921

The Noake Years 1916 - 1921

Mr SC Noake succeeded Canon McClemans as Headmaster towards the end of 1915.

First XI Cricket Team 1922

Thompson's Year At The Helm 1922

Mr HS Thompson, who stayed for only one year, succeeded Mr Noake as Headmaster.

Headmaster Canon LW Parry & Prefects 1922

The Parry Years 1923 - 1932

In 1923 Reverend LW Parry was appointed Headmaster of the School. He transferred from Guildford Grammar School.

Swimming Team 1938

The Walters Years 1933 - 1942

Mr BT Walters took up the position of Headmaster at the beginning of the 1933 school year.

Commonwealth Cup 1947

The Jupp & Todd Years 1943 - 1949

Mr Walters was succeeded as Headmaster by Reverend LR Jupp, an Old Boy of the School.

Junior Leaders Course 1975

The Moyes Era 1951 - 1981

Christ Church boomed in the post-war period.

Headmaster Mr Hill with Prefects 1982

The Hill Years 1982 - 1987

Mr AJ de V Hill succeeded Mr Moyes in 1982.

Mr Madin with 2000 leavers

The Madin Years 1988 - 2000

Mr JJS Madin was appointed Headmaster, effective from January 1988.

The Wynne Years 2001 -

Mr GE Wynne took over the reins in 2001.

1995-

The School Arms

The Arms of the School were adopted in their present form in 1923.

Founder's Day

Every year a service of thanksgiving is held for the Founder of the School, Canon WJ McClemans. A family service is held early in August, in addition to a special School Assembly.
