Volunteers Honoured for their Efforts

Volunteers are an integral part of the Christ Church community. Morning teas to recognise the efforts of Canteen and Uniform Shop volunteers were held recently.

The Canteen volunteers’ morning tea, held in the Sandover Dining Hall, was organised as a thank you to parents who had served faithfully in the Canteen or were interested in joining the roster.

A short video was shown to offer training in food handling as part of the School’s commitment to risk management and occupational health and safety.

Canteen Manager Ann Carr said: “The purpose was also to familiarise our volunteers with the workings of a commercial kitchen, which is perhaps different to what they are used to at home.”

She said it was a great opportunity to get together socially and discuss was happening in 2010.

The Uniform Shop volunteers’ morning tea, held later that morning in the Uniform Shop, was organised by the Clothing Service Committee.

Clothing Service Committee representative Michelle Matyear said: “We want to extend our thanks to current volunteers and invite new volunteers to participate and see what’s involved.”

She said that there were approximately 120 people on the volunteers’ register who helped with appointment days, various tasks during the year, or even lending a helping hand for 30 minutes after dropping their boys off at school.

Uniform Shop Manager Chrissie Lidstone said their level of commitment was flexible and “we wouldn’t be able to manage without them”.
