Volunteers Needed For Hungry Boys

Preparing and serving meals to more than 800 hungry boys is no mean feat. However, it is all in a day’s work for CCGS Canteen Manager Ann Carr and her staff.

While Mrs Carr is supported by a small group of dedicated mums, who volunteer a morning, afternoon or an hour or two over the recess or lunchtime rush, more hands are always needed. “The more help we have the better quality food and service we can provide your sons,” she said.

Year 9 mother Tanja Gower, who has been volunteering for a year, described the Canteen as the heart and soul of the School - much like the kitchen in a home. “Volunteering in the Canteen has been rewarding, fun and was a good way for me to settle in as a parent in the Senior School,” Mrs Gower said. “I love feeling the pulse of the School and being a part of the CCGS community, which is all about togetherness, taking part and making a difference.”

The Canteen’s menu includes fresh rolls, sandwiches, salads and fruit salads as well as sushi, which is delivered daily. Hot meals are also available. It will be an exciting year for the Canteen with a refurbishment and new menu planned for later in the year. If you are interested in volunteering, on your own or with a friend, click on the Canteen Roster link in the weekly e-newsletter for available times.
