The Charles Frederic Russell Memorial Scholarship for Year 10
In 1973 Mrs Ester Temple Russell bequeathed a scholarship to Christ Church Grammar School in memory of her son, Charles Patrick Frederic Russell, who attended the School in the 1930s. The scholarship, which is awarded for general excellence, is open to boarders who are entering the School in Year 10 who live in the Gascoyne/Mid-West/North-West regions. It is valued at one-half of the school fees and is tenable for three years. Applications for this scholarship will be accepted in 2010 for a boy entering Christ Church in 2011.
Charles was tragically drowned on 28 March 1948 at Sorrento on the Port Phillip peninsula. At the time he was a student at Melbourne University. When Charles and his older brother William attended Christ Church their family was living at Irwin House, Irwin, 80 kilometres south of Geraldton.
Applications for this scholarship are to be made to the Headmaster, outlining the particular circumstances of the family and the applicant’s character and ability to benefit from the scholarship. Applicants should also include a copy of their latest school report.
