Starting at Christ Church

Information for new students at Christ Church Grammar School.

Orientation Day

Orientation Day is generally held on the Saturday immediately before the school year commences. New boys from Year 7 through to Year 12 are expected to attend with their parents or guardian. The Senior School Orientation Programme runs for approximately three hours in the morning from 9.00am to 12.00 noon. Boys will meet their Head of House and House Tutor, receive timetables and be taken on a familiarisation tour of the School. Textbooks can also be collected on the day if necessary.

The Preparatory School Orientation Morning for Years 2 to Year 7 will be held in Term 4 in the year preceding enrolment, whilst the Pre-Primary and Year 1 boys will meet for approximately one hour from 2.00pm to 3.00pm on the Saturday before the school year commences. Any necessary text books and course materials will be provided by the Prep School on the first day of Term 1.

There is a special Orientation Programme for new boarders that commences the evening prior to the main Orientation Day. The Director of the Residential Community will contact you to arrange an interview to discuss issues such as pocket money, leave arrangements and other administrative and personal matters.

Information Delivery

The School will send out specific information to all new parents in the October prior to enrolment and an additional mail-out detailing book collection times etc will be sent in the December.

Preparatory School

Open Day
The Preparatory School holds an Open Day towards the end of Term 3 each year. It provides an opportunity to see the School in action, visit classrooms and see the boys at work and play.

Interviews
New Preparatory School parents and boys will receive a letter in the July prior to enrolment regarding interviews. These will be held during Term 3 and Term 4 of the year preceding enrolment and for one week prior to the commencement of the school year. The Head of the Preparatory School, all boys and the Director of the Early Learning Centre will be involved with the interviews.

Senior School

Courses of Study
Subject Selection forms will either be mailed prior to, or will be included in, the October mail-out. The Upper School Handbook detailing course outlines can also be viewed on the School website. Parents and boys are encouraged to discuss course selection with the Director of Studies or the School Counsellors. Appointments can be made by phoning 9442 1555.

Text Books and Information Technology
Text books are supplied by the School therefore no book-lists are supplied. The books, together with a few stationery items, can be collected prior to the start of the school year. Extra supplies of stationery and items such as calculators can be purchased during term time from the Book Room located near the School Refectory. Boys will also receive course materials, software and provision of the most up-to-date ICT equipment during the school year.

Administrative Information

Uniform Shop
This facility is located in the School grounds. All items of school uniform as well as excellent second-hand clothing are available. A brochure is included in each October mail-out or phone 9442 1716 for details of opening times.

Scholarships
A number of Academic, Boarding and Indigenous Scholarships are available for boys entering the Senior School. Details of the Scholarships can be obtained from the Headmaster’s Secretary on 9442 1502 or via the Scholarship webpage. Music Scholarships and Bursaries are also available. Details can be obtained from the Director of Music on 9442 1646.
