House Shout: Boys in Strong Voice
Christ Church students threw themselves enthusiastically into robust and sometimes creative renditions from the Beatles songbook this week when the eight Houses competed for best vocal group. At the conclusion of the entertaining, fun-filled assembly, Headmaster Garth Wynne commented that students and staff had been smiling for an hour - “a very good thing.”
Adjudicators Mr Tim Chapman, Head of Music at St Hilda’s, and Mr Nicholas Bannon, from UWA Music Education, were in agreement when they announced Noake’s version of Penny Lane as the standout performance. The boys in brown were congratulated on their two-part harmony and their “strong, manly sound.”
Second place went to Wolsey for their energy-driven interpretation of Twist and Shout and third place to Hill for their performance of Help.
Nicholas Bannon applauded the School on the initiative of getting the boys to sing. He said when determining the winning House they were looking for a sense that the boys were enjoying singing as a group and that they were enjoying one another’s company.
