FROM THE HEADMASTER

This last week has been an interesting one for the School community because of the impact of the management of the swine flu. I am very pleased with the way we have been able to work closely with the West Australian Health Department to inform parents in a clear and timely manner of what has been required of them and of us. There is no doubt that this communication has been facilitated by the excellent work of our Clinical Nurse Manager, Mrs Joanna Simpson. Joanna works with a fantastic team in our Health Centre and the way in which she has managed this issue reflects her capacity to deal with all health issues, big or small, for our School. I know you will join with me in thanking Joanna for her care and professionalism, particularly this week.

The other matter that has been clearly emphasised this week is how the School’s gradual move, through my time as Headmaster, to use email and the website as the core communication tool for the School community has proven to be efficient and effective.

As the community of this e-Newsletter is aware, I seldom make specific mention of students in my offering. I do this quite consciously as to do justice to all the boys who are outstanding week to week within the School would mean I was doing little else than writing this column! Today, though, I make an exception by highlighting the remarkable achievement of our Year 12 student, Bo An Lu. Details can be found HERE. At the Concert Hall on Wednesday evening, those of us who were there were a part of something very special when we experienced Bo An’s performance in the Stage Final (Piano) of the 2009 ABC Young Performer of the Year. He was quite simply outstanding as he has been in many other aspects of School life. We are very proud of him.

FROM THE HEAD OF THE LW PARRY PREPARATORY SCHOOL

prep-autumn-leaves.jpg

It has been a unique week in my career this week at Christ Church with the Prep School community being kept informed about the H1N1 virus and the consequences for boys and staff. This week was to be one of the ‘bigger’ weeks of the year with the IPSHA Performing Arts Festival on Wednesday and Grandparents’ and Special Friends’ Day today. Unfortunately the postponement of Christ Church students participating in the performance and Grandparents’ Day has left many disappointed boys, parents and grandparents.

The Performing Arts Festival went ahead with the remaining 21 Independent Primary Schools on Wednesday, Thursday and today. As the organiser of the Festival, it has been fantastic to see the excitement of the many performers each day. The Festival has been a positive and valuable experience and all the performers have learnt so much about stagecraft, working collaboratively and working toward a long-term goal. Another wonderful facet of an independent education!
