New Preparatory School Staff 2008

TEACHERS
Mrs Helen Adams BEd (WACAE) GradCertEd(RSA)
has been appointed to a full-time position teaching Year 1 in the Preparatory School.  She believes “it is vital that boys are taught in an environment that is both physically and intellectually vibrant, and appropriately matched to their particular educational needs”.

Ms Karen Blair BA (UWA) GradDipEd (ECU) has been appointed to a part-time teaching position (Art) in the Preparatory School. As a practising artist, Karen knows the enjoyment that comes from creating art from a variety of mediums and the challenge and satisfaction of developing skills.  She finds great satisfaction in encouraging and inspiring children with love for creative expression in the creative arts.

Old Boy Mr Joel Birch BPsych(UWA)GradDipEd(ECU) has been appointed to a full-time teaching position (Year 4) in the Preparatory School. Joel identifies his professional goal as making “a significant contribution to the development and future direction of education as a profession through the demonstration of innovative best practice relevant to 21st century students as learners”.

Of his co-curricular abilities Joel writes: “I am an avid recreational musician and user of music technology, I can hold my own on a tennis court, and I’m an ambitious DIY handyman. He speaks French and is a self-confessed “one-eyed Mac user”. This year he was on the organisational committee for Apple’s Asia-Pacific Innovative Technology in Schools Conference.

Ms Rebecca Duncan BA BEd(ECU) has been appointed to a full-time teaching position (Year 3) in the Preparatory School, effective from 1 January 2008. Her most recent teaching position was as a Year 2 teacher and Junior School Learning Technologies Coordinator at All Saints’ College.

In 2004 Rebecca was awarded a National Excellence in Teaching Award (NEiTA WA). In the same year in conjunction with Murdoch University she undertook a Commonwealth funded action research project titled Making Connections to promote Early Literacy. The result is a DVD and professional development package that will be distributed nationally to all education and child care sectors. Rebecca was motivated to apply to Christ Church because she is looking for “a challenging position” that will utilise her “experience, enthusiasm and innovation for best practice in early chldhood education”.

Ms Lucy Speilman BEd(Primary) has been appointed to a full time position in the Peter Moyes Centre in The LW Parry Preparatory School.  Lucy graduated in 2006 and has worked as a Specialist Health and Physical Education Teacher at Bendigo Special Development School in Victoria.
