New Senior School Staff 2009
Ms Margaret Chapple, BEd, DipLib, GradDipSchAdmin has been appointed to a job share position of Teacher-Librarian in the Collaborative Learning Centre. Margaret has worked at Methodist Ladies’ College and has previously taught at Santa Maria College and a number of other secondary State schools in Western Australia.
Ms Anna Cornell BA VisualArts(ECU), Grad DipComm(ECU), GradDipEd(UWA) has been appointed to a temporary part-time teaching position in the IT and Art Departments. As a graphic designer, Anna has strong experience in computer graphics, desktop publishing and web design. She also has an excellent understanding of film technology. Anna is also an accomplished photographer with two recent exhibitions showcasing her photographic work.
Ms Stephanie Harford, BA(MusEd),(UWA) has been appointed to a full-time position in the Music Department, effective 1 January 2009. Stephanie graduated in 2008 and previously visited Christ Church whilst on her third year teaching practicum in 2007, working with members of both the Senior and Prep Schools. Her main instruments are piano, flute and a choral background.
Ms Sophie Heane, BA(UWA) GradDipEd(UWA) has been appointed to a full-time position in the English Department, effective 1 January 2009. Sophie has taught English and Society and Environment at Aranmore Catholic College. She uses web 2.0 technologies to teach her students the process of editing and to enhance students’ creativity. Sophie recently presented at a national symposium named the ‘Digital Revolution’ to demonstrate the use of wiimote software in the classroom and its use in the curriculum.
Ms Joanne Hillam will be working in a permanent part time position in the English Department. Joanne has taught Society and Environment and English for a number of years and has a strong background in art history and management. The last two years she worked in the government system teaching at Duncraig Senior High School and Shenton College. She has a son at Christ Church and her daughters attend St Hilda's.
Mrs Helen Knight, DipTeach(WACAE), BEd, MEd (ECU) will continue at Christ Church in 2009 in a job share position of Teacher-Librarian in the Collaborative Learning Centre. Helen has extensive experience as a Teacher-Librarian working as Co-ordinator at Servite College and Co-ordinator of the K-12 Library at John XXIII College.
Mr Patrick Louden has been appointed to a temporary position in the Design and Technology Department in the Senior School. Patrick joins the School for his first teaching role and brings a wealth of experience as he previously worked as a tradesman for many years.
Mr Michael Masterton, BEd Env Sci (Victoria College) has been appointed as the Head of Science for 2009. Since 2001, Michael has been the Head of Science at CBC Fremantle. He brings great enthusiasm and experience to the role having previously worked within the State sector at Churchlands SHS and in the UK. He is excited about joining our School and all the associated challenges and opportunities leading the Science Department will bring.
Ms Maggie McPhee, BA(UWA) GradDipEd(UWA), MEd(UWA) has been appointed to a full-time teaching position in the English Department, effective 1 January 2009. Maggie has previously worked in the Independent Schools system (Methodist Ladies College), the Catholic Education Authority (St Joseph’s College) and has taught English at Willetton Senior High School. Having taught Year 8 ATP students at Willetton, she has an interest in gifted and talented education.
Mr Luke Milton has been appointed to the full time position of Library Assistant in the CLC Library. He was previously employed as the Project Manager for ARTRAGE, where he was involved in event production. Luke is a prolific writer and an active member of the Perth comics community, having run the 24 Hour Comics Day events in Perth.
Mr David Proudlove, BSc (Hons) (Southampton), MSc (Colorado School of Mines), PGCE Geog, PE (Hull) has been offered the newly-created position as the Head of Humanities. This role will cover the teaching Departments of History (Ancient, Modern), Geography, Economics/Commerce, Philosophy Ethics and Religion. The new Department will be managed in a similar way to the Science Department with Heads of Subject reporting through the Head of Department.
Mrs Renee Whitcher BEd(ECU) has been appointed to the position of Co-ordinator of the Peter Moyes Centre (Senior School) effective from 1 January 2009. Renee has been working in the field of Special Education for seven and a half years and is has been the Head of Individual Needs (Prep - Year 12) at Wesley College, Glen Waverly, Victoria. She is confident in her ability to create a positive learning environment, to actively engage children in the learning process and to use a variety of strategies to cater for each student’s learning and development needs. She has created a successful social skills programme and lunchtime games club to assist students with autism or social emotional difficulties.
Dr Stephen Zander (DipTeach), BEd(Sturt), MEd(NT), (ScEdD)(Curtin) has been appointed to a permanent position in the Physics Department, effective 1 January 2009. Stephen has come to Christ Church after 12 months at Scotch College last year and 8 years previously at Presbyterian Ladies College as a senior teacher. Prior to that he spent 20 years teaching and working in the Northern Territory. He has produced numerous teaching resources used in teaching Physics in Years 7 - 12. The most recent was in co-producing a digital resource for the WA Curriculum Framework as a joint project between the WA Chamber of Mines and Presbyterian Ladies’ College.
