As Semester One drew to a close, Christ Church said farewell to members of staff who had made significant contributions to the School.

Among them were Preparatory School Headmaster Clark Wight, longstanding teachers Alison Hewson and Helen Wilson and School Marshal Ron Hutchinson.

Headmaster Garth Wynne described Mr Wight as a “shooting star”. He said during Mr Wight’s relatively short time at the School he had made significant contributions that would influence Christ Church for years to come. In a presentation by the Prep School boys, they referred to their Headmaster as “really cool”, “always happy and energetic” and “a friend”. The School community will greatly miss Mr Wight but wishes him every success in his new role in the United States.

After 20 and 24 years respectively, the School wished Senior School teacher librarian Mrs Hewson and Prep School music co-ordinator Ms Wilson well on their retirement. Head of the CLC Greg Lindorff said the many phone calls and visits Mrs Hewson received from past students showed the impact she had on them as a teacher as well as chess co-ordinator, soccer coach and mock trials co-ordinator. Mr Wight said Ms Wilson had made it “cool to be in the choir or band”. He said the Yahoos choir and Week of the Arts, which she introduced, would be enjoyed and remembered for years to come.

Christ Church said goodbye to Ron Hutchinson, who was also retiring. Deputy Headmaster Roger Bayly said Mr Hutchinson had been a highly dedicated member of the administrative and pastoral care team for the past 10 years.
