Christ Church Recognises 30 Years of Service
When Terrey Fisher stepped into her role as the Headmaster’s Secretary she never dreamed she’d be here four headmasters later. Mrs Fisher celebrated a significant milestone recently – 30 years of service to Christ Church Grammar School.
She began at the School in 1978, working for Headmaster Peter Moyes. “Back then I used an electronic typewriter – it was very difficult to correct things if you made a mistake,” she said. Tony Hill, who came to the School from Kings School, succeeded Mr Moyes three years later. On his arrival, Mrs Fisher remembers him telling her to take the canes in his office away as he would not be using them.
After five years with Mr Hill, Mrs Fisher spent the next 13 working with Jeremy Madin. During this time, she was introduced to her first computer and set to work after a day’s training. “It definitely wasn’t as user-friendly as they are now.”
She said all the headmasters were very different and that she had adapted to the style of whoever was in the chair. With Garth Wynne’s appointment to the head’s role in 2001 came a change of scenery. In 2004, the School’s administration offices moved out of L Block, now home to the School’s Archives, to its current location in the CLC building.
Mrs Fisher was amazed at how the physical aspect of the School had changed over the years. “It just keeps growing and all four headmasters have played a significant role in those changes.” She said she had always enjoyed her role and working in the school environment. “It’s a place of education for everybody – not just the boys.”
