Christ Church Year 11 boys, Harry Konowalous and Sam Dobney have been selected to represent Australia at the National Water Polo Championships in South Africa in December, followed by three test matches against New Zealand in Sydney.

Following their success in the State Schoolboys water polo team, Harry and Sam were selected to compete for Western Australia at the State Championships in Sydney last month. At this competition, Western Australia won the bronze medal and the boys were selected for the national team.

Having played water polo since the early age of seven, Sam said he introduced Harry to the game when they became buddies in primary school. Since then, the boys have gone from strength to strength, playing in the Christ Church Firsts since Year 9 and now playing in the Under 18s and Premier Men’s League.

“What I most enjoy about the sport is the mate-ship with other team members,” Sam said.

“As the teams only require a small number of people, you end up playing with some of your best mates.”

Director of Sport, Mr Anthony Lynch, said he was incredibly proud of the boys’ achievements and wished them the best of luck in their training leading up to the National Championships.
