Year 1s Become Mailmen

The franking machine was given a good workout when the Year 1s acted as mailmen as part of their ‘Jobs in the Community’ programme last week.

Classes 1HM and 1CI have been learning about the ins and outs of the postal system, including the postal workers, the format of letter writing, stamps, franking and how to address an envelope.

Year 1 teacher Holly Miller said: “We currently have a post office set up in the classroom and, as part of our literacy programme, wrote a letter to our mums and dads.”

“Last Friday after having our letters franked, we walked to the post box and posted them off – fingers crossed they make it to the boys' homes!”

The Year 1s have also explored a number of other jobs recently. Several parents have given talks and the students have visited a vet and pharmacy.
