Boys Learn of Paramedics’ Crucial Role
The sight of an ambulance driving through the School campus would usually be cause for concern. However, the recent visit was for a demonstration organised as part of the Year 6 and 7’s health programme.
St John ambulance paramedic Glen Knight, also the husband of Year 6 teacher Julie Knight, visited CCGS to speak to the boys about his role as a front line operator dealing with medical emergencies. The students, who are learning about first aid as part of their health studies, gained an insight into the crucial service to the community and of the training and study required for the job.
After talking the boys through the equipment on board the ambulance, including the electrocardiogram (ECG) monitor, oxygen and stretcher, Mr Knight demonstrated their functions on some very willing assistants. Mrs Knight said the boys were enthralled and had excellent questions for Mr Knight, eager for him to recount some of the life-threatening situations he had encountered in his role.
