ELC Athletics Carnival
The 2009 ELC Athletics Carnival was a great afternoon event. Despite rainy weather in the morning, the afternoon conditions were pleasant and all boys participated keenly in a range of events. The support of parents, family and friends was amazing (as always) – not even the grey conditions deterred their enthusiasm.
The Pre-Primary to Year 3 boys ran a 50 metre sprint, then a 50 metre hurdles race. All boys received participation ribbons throughout the afternoon. No House points were awarded as the focus for the day was about having fun and ‘doing your best’.
Parents and staff ran a fiercely contested race, and then the shuttle relays began. The boys ran these in Houses within their year levels, and baton changes were smooth and hassle-free – too many close finishes to pick any winners!
"Tabloid sports stations" wound up the afternoon. The "sack race" proved popular and provided many laughs as the boys tripped, scrambled and fell over the finish line! The "beanbag hoop relay" was a winner as the boys ran backwards and forwards between hoops and buckets, and an old favourite "the egg and spoon race" saw some great balancing and agility from all the boys – not too many eggs were ‘scrambled’ on the day! "Tunnel ball" (Years 2 and 3) and the "beanbag balance relay" (Pre-Primary and Year 1) completed our "tabloid sport stations". All the boys rotated through these and participated keenly in each event. Their efforts, determination, and great sportsmanship was a highlight during the afternoon.
A fantastic ELC Athletics Carnival – we look forward to doing it all again next year!
