Prep skiers face the elements at Falls Creek
The rain, sleet, hail, wind, fog and cold did not deter boys on the Preparatory School Ski Trip to Falls Creek, Victoria, from having a great time. The elements may have put a halt to some skiing but the Year 5 and 6 boys still managed to find their feet.
The annual tour, now in its 26th year, was once again led by stalwarts Jamie Fagan and Peter Williamson, during the first week of the school holidays. All the boys, including 16 skiing for the first time, were very excited.
After departing Perth on early on Sunday 8 July, the tour group arrived at Haleys Lodge in Falls Creek by 6.15pm where there was just enough time to organise skis, have dinner and get a good night’s sleep. Mr Fagan said Day 2 produced the most beautiful weather – perfect for the boys’ first day of lessons. Day 3 began with rain and the group did not venture out until after lunch. Here, the boys received the full brunt of the weather - sleet, hail, rain, plus freezing wind – but still managed to have fun and keep a smile on their faces.
Whilst still being able to ski, the weather on Days 4, 5 and 6 was not much better with fog, more rain and wind. Despite this, Mr Fagan said the boys were in good spirits and skied quite well with the instructors commenting that all the boys had been wonderful to teach.
“The boys were a great group to take away and the parents should all be very proud of their sons,” Mr Fagan said. “Many thanks to the staff who made this trip possible, and who gave up their holiday to help make it happen.”
