Year 3 learns the science of slime

Year 3 boys were all ears when it cam to learning about the science of slime at Scitech last week. The boys also caught the train to City West, which Year 3 teacher Grace Humphrey said was an exciting journey in itself.

Mrs Humphrey said watching Scitech’s Slime Show was a fun extension of their studies into solids, liquids and gases. “The presenters explained the properties of slime to the boys and led them through experiments and investigations that looked at its unique properties,” she said. “Highlights included the presenters placing their hands into large jars of “snot” - recreating mucus in the oesophagus, and firing pencils at bags of different slime!"

The boys also looked at energy as part of another workshop currently running Scitech. “The presenter elicited from the boys how energy could be stored and transferred, and discussed its different types and sources. They then searched the interactive displays to find stations that demonstrated the storing and transference of energy.”

On returning to school, Year 3 teacher Chantal Hockey wrapped up the science-focused day by showing the boys a 'pop rocket' experiment. Joining the Year 3s on their excursion was scientist Andrew Yuncken. Andrew has been visiting 3CH this term and answering some of their questions about science as part of the Scientists in Schools project.
