Christ Church Chess teams displayed a remarkable effort in the 2008 WA Secondary Schools Teams Chess Tournament held on Sunday 21 September.

It was a great opportunity for boys from within the CCGS Chess community who do not typically participate in tournament chess to experience the challenges of a competitive tournament.

“Christ Church sent four teams, which is a testament to the level of involvement in chess that we are currently witnessing amongst our boys,” Chess co-ordinator and teacher Dominic Hodnett said.

The B-Grade team successfully won their category. This was a significant achievement, as the team was comprised solely of Year 8 students. The boys were competing against students from higher age groups in the B-Grade division.

Headmaster Garth Wynne presented the B-Grade team members, Christopher Doukakis, Matthew Wozniuk, Kieren Tan and Derek Chia, with their medals at assembly this week.
