Last week, Christ Church welcomed leading expert on the role gender plays in child development and education, Dr Leonard Sax. Dr Sax spoke separately to boys and parents on the traps associated with video games and social networking, and to staff about the characteristics of great teachers of boys.

Celia Lashlie, author of bestselling book He’ll Be Ok: Growing Gorgeous Boys Into Good Men and a regular visitor to Christ Church, addressed Year 9 boys and single mothers this week. The series of talks were funded by the Parents’ Association.

Years 11 and 12 politics and economics students had a rare opportunity to attend a question and answer session with the Premier of Western Australia Colin Barnett this week. Mr Barnett kindly made himself available for almost an hour after a Declaration of the Poll was held in the School Chapel.

World leading masculinity researcher speaks to parents

On Monday evening, about 300 members of both the school and wider community heard from Dr Michael Kimmel, one of the world’s leading researchers, writers and lecturers on men, masculinity and gender. Dr Kimmel was in Perth to speak at the International Boys’ School Coalition (IBSC) Regional Conference, which was also hosted by Christ Church. Headmaster Garth Wynne is currently the Regional Vice-President for Australia and New Zealand of the IBSC.

Life advice for boys from Australia’s leading adolescent psychologist

Australia’s leading child and adolescent psychologist Dr Michael Carr-Gregg returned to the Senior School to give boys important life advice and talk about positive psychology. Dr Carr-Gregg’s annual visits are made possible by the Christ Church Parents’ Association.
