Stage set for mid-year showdown
In late December, Christ Church’s First XI Squad took on Eton College during the UK school’s Australian cricket tour. Despite the two-day match being declared a draw, both teams played some fantastic cricket at the School’s Mt Claremont playing grounds.
Teacher in Charge of cricket, Andrew Greig said Christ Church was the only WA school to take on Eton during its tour. The English team had been in Melbourne and Adelaide prior to Perth, where it spent four days before flying back to London in time for Christmas.
The Christ Church squad, comprising senior boys as well as 2011 graduates Stevie Eskinazi and Lachie Hunn, bowled Eton all out for 352 on the first day and then responded with nine for 327.
“It was a magnificent two days of cricket with some great performances from both teams,” Mr Greig said.
The schools will meet again this year when the 2012 Christ Church UK Cricket Tour departs in July.
