AIT Students Visit The ABC
Boys from the Year 11 AIT classes had the opportunity to visit the ABC in Perth for a class excursion. The students had a detailed tour of the ABC facility, including television broadcasting, news and radio studios.
Below is a story by Year 11 student James Bradshaw:
On Wednesday 19 March 2008, boys from the Year 11 AIT Classes went to the ABC in Perth. When we arrived and had disembarked from the bus we were introduced to our tour guides who would be giving us a full tour of ABC Perth. One of the guides was Mrs Eyers, whose son is David Eyers in year 10. After we had been introduced we had a few photos taken out the front of the building and then we made our way inside.
Tour Part One Main TV Broadcast Studio
In the first part of the guided tour we were shown the main television broadcast studio were we were told to be extremely quite as they were in the process of filming for a television show which was quite interesting to see them in action. It was also pretty cool to see one of the main actors of the well known comedy Kath & Kim.
Tour Part Two Second TV Broadcast Studio
After they had finished filming we made our way to a second much smaller television broadcast studio. This one was much smaller than the first and was used for recording much smaller television shows and for the recording of music after this we were split into two separate groups and one group would be shown floors one than two and the other would be shown floors tow than one.
Tour Part 3 Floor 2 ABC Radio
My group was sent to the second floor first which was where the ABC Radio was edited and broadcast from. There were many different recording studios and meeting rooms on this floor one of which was a strange studio were different sounds were generated by many different surfaces and props this was mainly used for radio dramas.
Tour Part 4 News Broadcast Studio and Triple J
The final part of the tour was the first floor were the ABC News was broadcast from this floor was very interesting because it was were all the journalists were doing research for the news which would be broadcast at 7 that night. Also on the first floor was were Triple J’s offices were. But the best part of the first floor was seeing were the weather man Russell Wolf presented the weather from. Overall it was a very good excursion and was very interesting I would recommend it to everyone.
