Holiday Course a Big Hit

The School corridors may have been quieter than usual but the FutureSphere was abuzz with budding clay animators.

The weeklong holiday course, part of a joint community programme run by UWA Extension and Christ Church Grammar School, introduced children to the art of stop motion animation. Animator, puppeteer and Christ Church old boy Ian Tregonning led 12 students through the frame-by-frame art form, which allowed them to film and export their clay creations into a movie, as well as edit and add music.

Year 8 Christ Church students Guy Barrington and Alex Dunn, who attended two holiday courses at the School previously, were back to create the next chapter in their ongoing, claymation movie. The pair said they had learned from previous mistakes and were enjoying putting newfound skills from their third course into action. “The course teachers have been really good,” Alex said.
