A revolutionary online diagnostic assessment tool is providing greater opportunities for learning to CCGS mathematics students.

Mathematics students in Years 7 to 10 have been provided with login details to MathTrak (www.ccgrammar.mathtrak.com.au) - a diagnostic testing site aligned with mathematics textbooks used in these year groups.

Head of Mathematics Jan Honnens said many students and parents were already seeing the benefits of the website. “They have discovered what a magnificent tool this is for improving and mastering the key concepts and ideas covered in the mathematics curriculum by identifying and targeting areas that need more attention,” he said. “This particular internet tool provides parents with an excellent opportunity to interact with their son and his learning of mathematics.”

MathTrak allows students to work on a specific chapter or select concepts according to their interest or needs. If the initial answer provided is correct, the concept will be colour-coded green to indicate mastery. An initial incorrect answer will be colour-coded red and the challenge for the student will then be to revisit this concept until the colour has changed to green. This is achieved after three consecutive correct answers.

“For teachers, this website offers a tremendous opportunity to encourage and map the learning of all the relevant mathematics concepts for individual students, as they can see both the number of attempts that a given student has had on a particular concept as well as the colouring of each concept,” Mr Honnens said.

“We believe that this online self-assessment tool will greatly assist all CCGS mathematics students in their attempt to master the curriculum,” he said. “We are quite excited about the opportunities that it provides for both students, parents and teachers to improve the mathematical learning journey.”
