Daren to Represent Australia at Chemistry Olympics
Year 12 student Daren Tan has been named in the Australian team to compete at the International Chemistry Olympiad in Hungary in July.
Daren was amongst the top four students in Australia to be selected in the team after sitting a final qualifying examination in Perth recently. It will be the second consecutive year Christ Church has represented Australia in the prestigious event. 2007 CCGS dux Andrew Tulloch represented Australia at last year’s Olympiad and came home with a silver medal.
Daren, together with Year 11 student Jason Kong, was invited to attend an intensive chemistry school at the Australian National University in Canberra in January. The students spent two weeks of their holidays at the 10-hour a day, residential training programme where they completed a practical exam, which counted towards their final mark. Daren said the challenging summer school would be good preparation for the Olympiad, which will be held in Budapest.
