The Christ Church Chess Team were victors in a new chess tournament between the PSA boys’ schools this week. The event, held at Christ Church’s Collaborative Learning Centre on Monday 18 August and Tuesday 19 August, was the first of its kind organised by staff at CCGS, Hale School and Scotch College.

All seven PSA boys’ schools entered a team of four boys with CCGS finishing in first place, followed by Hale and Scotch. CCGS was represented by chess captain Michael Chan (Y12), William Blake (Y12), Christopher Doukakis (Y8) and Matthew Wozniuk (Y8).

Chess co-ordinator Dominic Hodnett said it was great to have recently retired CCGS teacher librarian Alison Hewson at the event to present prizes. He said Mrs Hewson, as well as teachers from Hale and Scotch, was a real driving force in getting the tournament off the ground. It is hoped the event will become an official PSA sanctioned event next year.
