MYTC Returns From Successful UK Tour

Perth audiences will soon have their chance to see the Australian premiere of the Midnite Youth Theatre Company’s latest production, The Premiere.

The Premiere, a story of greed, love and revenge, rooted in the traditions of the Greek masters but with a contemporary take on the cult of celebrity, opens at The Playhouse Theatre on Tuesday 11 March.

The MYTC, Perth’s oldest, continuous youth theatre company, recently returned from a sold-out tour of the production through England, Scotland and Wales.

The two-act play by Ben Myers, with a soft-rock score by UK composer Phil White, follows the career of movie star Johnny Grey as he moves rapidly from actor to box office sensation to a sensational breakdown. Grey does learn to see the glitz and glamour for what it is but his tragedy is that he still needs it, wants it and craves it.

The Premiere, commissioned by MYTC and directed by Anthony Howes (CCGS Director of Drama and Media), opened at the Riverfront Theatre in Newport, Wales, on 8 January - exactly 20 years to the day that Midnite opened its first-ever tour in the UK.

It then played in England, at the famous Sadler’s Wells Theatre in London, and provincial theatres; ending its tour in Edinburgh and Glasgow, Scotland.

The Premiere is on at The Playhouse Theatre for a limited season (Tuesday 11 March to Saturday 15 March – no show Thursday) from 8.00pm. There will also be a matinee performance on Saturday at 2.00pm.  Bookings can be made through BOCS Ticketing outlets online at www.bocsticketing.com.au or by phoning 9484 1133 (booking fees may apply).  Tickets are $27 (adults) and $17 (concessions).
