On Tuesday evening we witnessed a very keenly contested House Swimming Carnival. Romsey claimed victory from Wolsey and there was great competition in all events throughout the program. Next week we will commence another component of the Beatty Cup competition, the House Arts, where boys can reveal their talents in public speaking, chess or debating. These activities can provide a valuable opportunity for boys from all year levels to both witness and participate in pastimes that can be used and enjoyed throughout their lives.

As the school year settles into its regular routines there are some important reminders for parents.

The first relates to the Christ Church Grammar School student card, the only means by which your son can borrow library books and purchase items from the Canteen and Bookroom. It can also be used to travel on public transport. Its use is essential in assisting the School to operate a cash-free environment.

Secondly, to avoid your son losing valuable personal items, please ensure clear labelling of all clothing items and sports equipment.

The final reminder is to dial the absentee hotline on 9442 1777 (24 hours 7 days a week) to notify us of your son’s absence, be it for an appointment during the day or due to illness.

Opportunities abound for all boys in the Senior School. All of these opportunities are routinely advertised in the Daily Bulletin. Thus, a critical element of a boy’s daily routine is the 20-minute tutorial period that runs from 8.30am to 8.50am. It is when boys engage with their tutor and other tutees as well as preparing themselves for the day ahead. Part of this preparation includes reading the Daily Bulletin on their electronic devices. The bulletin is published each morning and contains important information that every boy needs to know. Parents may also find it very useful.

Last week our Year 11 boys had the special opportunity to gain inspiration and guidance from a line-up of speakers including old boy and keynote speaker, The Hon. Chief Justice Wayne Stewart Martin AC. The Ad Astra Day program covered a number of different presentations which are now available online – please click here to access.

Finally, on Wednesday next week we welcome renowned guest speaker Paul Dillon to Christ Church where he will speak on the topic of ‘Teenagers, alcohol and other drugs. How much influence do parents really have?‘ All parents and friends of the School are welcome and on behalf of the Parents’ Association, I encourage you to attend. Further details on the event and bookings can be made here.
