Music

Music scholarships are awarded annually to boys entering Year 7 who show outstanding ability, enthusiasm and commitment on one or more instruments. Each scholarship has a value of 50 per cent of the school tuition fees plus free tuition on one or two instruments. The scholarship, while subject to annual review, is tenable for the duration of a boy’s education at Christ Church.

In order for the School to understand each boy’s academic level as well as musical ability, applicants are also required to sit the scholarship examination on Saturday 24 March 2018 and to attend a 10-minute audition at the School on Saturday 7 April 2018.  The applicant will need to prepare two contrasting pieces for the audition.

Candidates will be notified of their audition time approximately two days after the application closing date and boys may arrange their own accompanist if desired. Early submission of your online application is encouraged to allow for programming and planning by the Music Department. No scales or technical work is required, however, candidates will be asked about their aspirations and commitment to ensembles and choirs. Candidates playing two instruments for the audition will be asked to play one piece on each instrument.
