Christ Church’s riverside location provides the ideal setting for the School’s highly successful rowing program.
The rowing season runs during Terms 1 and 4. Boys train out of the School’s boatshed, located on the Queenslea Drive campus, with all regattas held at Champion Lakes in Armadale.
The annual Head of the River, where the First VIII competes for the Challenge Cup, is the final regatta of the year. The Hamer Cup is awarded to the overall champion school for the season.
Director of Rowing Steve Saunders, a former Australian and State rower, has led Christ Church to seven Head of the River wins since 2002. Other coaches include Laurie Anderson, also a former Australian and State representative, and old boys Cameron Brewer (Class of 2004) and Tom Meares (Class of 2010), who both currently represent Australia.
