Personal & Spiritual Development
The personal and spiritual development of boys is developed in the Senior School through the subject Personal and Spiritual Development (PSD), Health Education and Religious Education as well as thought provoking guest speakers organised by the Centre for Boys’ Health and Wellbeing and the Centre for Ethics.
In Years 7 and 8, boys are encouraged to explore their own personality, learn new skills and develop the capabilities to relate with others. Developing an understanding of self, the value of a positive mindset about themselves, their body and their emotions, happiness and relationships is important. Through Religious Education and chapel services boys are introduced to the central tenets of the Christian faith and investigate how Christianity has developed through time and impacted on today’s society.
In Years 9 and 10, there is a focus on developing resilience, making decisions that strengthen a sense of self, and building and maintaining satisfying relationships. An emphasis is placed on giving students the skills required to help them develop into the men they want to become. Through Religious Education and chapel services boys are introduced to the main features of different world religions as well as examining personal, Australian and the School’s values.
In Years 11 and 12, boys learn to take responsibility for their actions and master their chosen pursuits, by making positive choices. They now know where and to whom they should go for help for themselves and others, and understand how decisions they make can impact on their future. As well as attending chapel services, visiting experts talk to boys on a range of topics including stress management, smart choices, drugs and alcohol, mental health and cyber safety.
