Music Ensembles

Senior Orchestra

This orchestra is for all students studying stringed instruments (violin, viola, cello and double bass) in the Senior School as well as for more advanced woodwind, brass and percussion players (those that have been learning for at least three years).

Middle School Rock Workshop

Boys in Years 7 to 10 who play an instrument and are interested in playing in a contemporary band are encouraged to join. This program develops instrumental and ensemble skills and, provides an opportunity for boys to collaborate with their band mates.

Senior Rock Workshop

Boys in Years 11 and 12 who play an instrument and are interested in playing in a contemporary band are encouraged to join the Senior Rock Workshop. This is an excellent opportunity to consolidate skills learned in the boys’ instrumental lessons.

Senior School Concert Band

The Senior School Concert Band is for students who play woodwind, brass and percussion instruments. Keyboard, electric and bass guitar positions are by invitation.

Senior School Music Theory Club

This is for students who have regular instrumental lessons and already learn some music theory from their teachers and would like extra help in a relaxed and supportive environment.

Chamber Orchestra I

The Senior Chamber Orchestra is open to advanced string players in the Senior School, and provides boys with the opportunity to refine their ensemble skills. It also introduces them to the standard string repertoire of the baroque, classical and romantic periods.

Senior Percussion Ensemble

This ensemble helps boys develop their technique and general musicianship, as well as learning to listen and play together as a section.

Senior Classical Guitar Ensemble

This ensemble is for boys who have an intermediate to advanced ability of technical and reading skills. The ensemble focuses on preparing pieces for assembly concerts and also focuses on sight reading and ensemble playing. 

Intermediate Guitar Ensemble

Guitarists keen to play in an ensemble with a contemporary inspired repertoire are encouraged to join the Intermediate Guitar Ensemble.

Jazz Band 1

Jazz Band 1 is for players of saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, electric guitar and electric bass guitar, drums and percussion who have been learning their instruments for between three to four years. Membership is principally for students in Years 10, 11 and 12.

Jazz Band 2

Jazz Band 2 is for players of saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, electric guitar and electric bass guitar, drums and percussion who have been learning their instruments for between one and two years. Membership is principally for students in Years 7, 8 and 9.

Jazz Combo

Jazz Combo is a smaller ensemble of five to nine players of saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, electric guitar, electric bass guitar, drums and percussion who have been learning their instruments for between three and four years, have some improvisation experience and would like to pursue it further.

Saxophone Ensemble

This ensemble is for players of soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophone who have been learning their instrument for between two to three years.

CCGS/MLC Combined Choir

The combined choir is an auditioned chamber choir for boys in Years 7 to 12. The choir learns a wide variety of repertoire throughout the year including gospel and jazz, renaissance opera, world folk song, contemporary A Cappella pieces and arrangements.

Senior Choir

This ensemble is compulsory for Music Extension students from Years 7 to 12. Students’ musicianship is enhanced by way of learning from professional vocalists and choristers and rehearsing and performing in a large ensemble of their peers. There is also a focus on developing individual vocal and aural abilities, exposure to a variety of repertoire and experiencing professional performance environments.

Flute Ensemble

This ensemble gives students the opportunity to explore a variety of styles of music including classical, pop, rock and jazz in ‘strictly flutes only’ arrangements.
