Editorial Once again the boys at Christ Church Grammar School have provided rich and varied material and I have enjoyed reading, watching, viewing and listening to the submissions. The complexity of life and existence is very apparent this year. Much of the work is challenging. Lachlan Zhou’s The Girl with Soft White Shoes is uncomfortable, yet thought-provoking, as is Byram de Campo Khan’sA Duty Fulfilled and there is a poignancy and subtlety to their use of language that is very affecting. The artwork of Julius Yu (who also provided artwork for the cover), Ander Schrauth and others does not shy away from confrontation and complexity either. Cover: Julius Yu, Year 11 There is beauty and vitality in the boys’ work. Akio Ho’s The Spirit of a Mountain Spring and Harry Hewitt’s On Contemplating the Ocean, while not oversimplifying or sanitising their subjects are so rich and vibrant in their imagery. Matt Hudson’s design work and William Hu’s beautiful music demonstrate an eye for the aesthetic and the work of Aman Shetty and Lincoln Hill, among others, in the Preparatory School shows that our appreciation of attractive visual art has a secure future. This year we have been able to include works which embrace different technologies as Impressions continues to evolve, providing the audience with more sensory engagement. I relate editing work like this to being the curator of a museum. Precious artefacts, the result of a considerable amount of thought, labour and heartache on the part of their creators, preserved for posterity and given a wider audience. My hope is that the audience is provoked and entertained by the work, and excited by the creative capabilities of the students at Christ Church. Neil Walker
