Middle School Rock Workshop
The Middle School Rock Workshop program provides Year 7 to 10 students with a practical and exciting rock band experience. Regular rehearsals and recording sessions with staff tutors offer our members an opportunity to learn about what it is like to be a member of a band; including the demands of practising their instrument, setting up and using essential equipment, selecting and learning repertoire and developing their set lists for performances and recording studio experience. Gigs throughout the year include Rock at Rosemount, the Rock Workshop Extravaganza, Music to the Fore and performances during Senior School Assemblies in the Chapel: all of these give the boys the confidence and expertise to perform for audiences in varied performance environments.
Expectations
- Be available from 3.20pm to 5.00pm on their designated rehearsal afternoon (Monday, Wednesday or Thursday)
- Must currently be learning an instrument in one-on-one lessons, internal or external to Christ Church
- Must demonstrate consistent attendance and full-year commitment
- It is expected that students provide their own hearing protection. There are several affordable products available online and in music stores. We can highly recommend brand names like Hearos, Etymotic, Flare Audio, and Alpine – all of which are designed with musicians in mind. Please note that students will not be permitted to take part in rehearsals if they don’t have their own personal hearing protection.
Additional information
Every effort is made to accommodate student preferences when forming bands (eg. friendship groups). Due to demand (instrumentation, rooms available, staffing etc.) this may not always be possible. Flexibility is the key! Any changes to band members must be approved by a staff member.
