Christ Church Grammar School is seeking an Outdoor Education Assistant to join the dedicated team located at the Schools Outdoor Education Centre, Kooringal, situated on the Murray River near the town of Dwellingup and 110 kilometres south-east of Perth.

This position will ideally suit a young enthusiastic person who is keen to develop skills and knowledge in the outdoor education field. The applicant we are seeking should have recently completed Year 12 studies and have a valid Australian driver’s licence, you will be physically fit and enjoy practical learning.  You will be required to work in a wide variety of environments across Western Australia and will be based/live in at our Kooringal Outdoor Education Centre.

Commencing as soon as practicable, your duties will include:

  • working with young people aged 10 – 17 years, in an outdoor environment.
  • participating as an assistant instructor in a wide range of outdoor education and recreation activities including environmental education, canoeing, kayaking, bushwalking and abseiling/high ropes course.
  • assisting with tasks relating to centre management: including catering, equipment maintenance, building and grounds maintenance and driving vehicles.

Christ Church Grammar School is looking to appoint a dynamic leader and exemplary teacher who will be responsible for the residential welfare of all boys in their respective boarding precincts.  This position will commence in Term 1, 2023 for a period of five years with the option to be re-appointed for a further three years.

The Director of Boarding is responsible for the leadership, pastoral care, spirit and morale, security, supervision and discipline of approximately 100 boarding students, in such a way to promote their growth and wellbeing.  The key aim of this position is to empower boarding students to take charge of their own lives by developing them to be confident and capable young men in an atmosphere of warmth, support and care.

It is anticipated that the successful applicant will have demonstrated leadership and management experience that reflect the significance of this position, along with the ability to draw the best out of a dedicated team of people working towards common goals.  You will possess excellent communication skills and it is essential that you have a strong understanding of the needs of boys with an empathy for the particular issues encountered by local, indigenous and international students in boarding environments.

The successful applicant will support the ethos of the School, possess excellent teaching and interpersonal skills, will have an exceptional understanding of innovative educational pedagogy and show an understanding of boys’ educational teaching and learning practices.

The Director of Boarding will teach 0.5 FTE in their area of expertise, and it is an expectation of the School that all members of staff contribute to the co-curricular program in a way that balances the needs of the School and the successful applicant’s talents and interests.
