The spirit of sport at Christ Church

At Christ Church, sport is a core part of our school program where boys compete with each other and for each other.

Christ Church is one of the seven independent boys’ schools forming the Public Schools’ Association (PSA) of Western Australia, who compete across summer and winter codes throughout the year. The School has enjoyed consistent success across many of the PSA codes with accolades including:

  • in 2013, ranking as the top performing school in the PSA competiton (by finishing position of the Firsts teams as an average);
  • champions of the PSA Inter-School Swimming Carnival from 2008 to 2012;
  • winning the Head of the River Regatta seven times since 2002;
  • holding the WA Schools Teams Sailing Racing Championships title (non-PSA) 18 times since 1992.

The broad range of sports on offer include:
Term 1 and 4 (summer):
Basketball, Cricket, Rowing, Sailing (selected groups), Swimming, Tennis, Volleyball, Water Polo, Golf (Years 11 and 12, one-day event).
Terms 2 and 3 (winter):
Badminton, Cross Country, Football, Hockey, Rugby, Sailing (selected groups), Soccer, Strength and Conditioning (Years 11 and 12).

Boys are required to participate in regular training and organised weekly fixtures in the summer and winter sport of their choice. Generally, Years 7, 8 and 9 boys train after school on Wednesdays and play against other schools on Friday afternoons (in school time), while Years 10, 11 and 12 boys train after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays and play against other schools on Saturday mornings. Christ Church boys train with highly regarded coaches including former Olympians, national and international players. The School’s outstanding sporting facilities include a gymnasium complex, heated 50m pool and extensive playing fields. International and national tours are also offered for many sports.
