Christ Church welcomed Olman Walley back to the school yesterday to run an Aboriginal Music incursion for our Year 9, and Aboriginal students as part of this year’s Reconciliation Week activities.

Olman demonstrated various instruments and spoke about how songs are used in his culture to depict stories.

Olman Walley has a long history with the school, performing Welcome to Countries, running workshops and teaching students about Noongar culture.

To celebrate Reconciliation Week this year, students will be painting a 6 metre by 2 metre mural depicting the six Noongar seasons.

Over the coming weeks dozens of Christ Church students will paint a depiction of their family tree in the colours that represent the Noongar season in which their birth month occurs.

In addition, some of the School’s Aboriginal students Irwin Lewis, Amaaron Davis, and Jonah Brooks, have designed a football jersey to be worn during the upcoming round against Wesley College which will take place during NAIDOC Week.

You can watch a video of Amaaron and Jonah speaking about their jersey design here.
