There was plenty to keep our Year 4 students busy in Fremantle, with a day spent discovering the marine environment and uncovering stories from WA’s maritime past.

At Cicerello’s, the boys got straight into the action, taking part in an interactive marine presentation where they had the opportunity to get up close with a range of sea creatures. They then headed out for a beach combing session, searching along the shoreline and learning more about the natural environment around them.

After a morning of hands-on learning, it was time for fish and chips overlooking the harbour, a much-loved Fremantle favourite.

The afternoon brought a change of focus at the Shipwreck Museum, where students explored stories from WA’s maritime past. They learned about ships, sailors and the shipwrecks that have become part of the state’s history. The museum offered plenty of opportunities to stop, look and ask questions as students gained a deeper understanding of how closely our coastline is tied to WA’s history.

The day also built on the students’ visit to AQWA earlier in the year, giving them another chance to connect their learning about the marine environment with WA’s maritime history. From sea creatures and shoreline discoveries to stories of ships and sailors, the boys returned with new knowledge, plenty of shared experiences and lots to talk about on the journey home.
