The 2025 House Regatta was an action-packed day, with rowers demonstrating skill, determination, and teamwork despite challenging weather conditions.

The quad events gave younger rowers, especially Year 8 students, valuable racing experience, which they met with confidence and composure.

All eyes were on the House VIIIs, where Romsey and Jupp entered as favourites after dominating the past four years. However, both crews were defeated in their heats, setting the stage for a highly competitive final. In an electrifying race, Queenslea surged ahead to claim victory in a tight finish, closely followed by Jupp, Craigie, and Romsey.

The much-anticipated Challenge VIII brought together Year 10, 11, and 12 rowers alongside crews from Methodist Ladies’ College and old boys. The race was fiercely competitive, with the Year 10 crew taking the win.

The regatta also celebrated leadership on and off the water. Captain Harry Gribble, Vice Captain Torsten Bird, Teacher in Charge of Rowing Nick Sumich and Committee Member Harry Groves were recognised for their guidance throughout the season. There was also the unveiling of the 1st VIII Honour Board, paying tribute to Simon Cox, the 1st VIII Coach and Head Coach since 2017.

The day was further enriched by the support of our Friends of Rowing and a strong turnout of old boys. Among those in attendance were crews from the 1960s and 1970s, as well as the 1986 winning team, who are already planning their reunion race at next year’s regatta.

Students organised a fundraising initiative to support Year 9 student Ben Gregory and his campaign for the Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation. Ben, who faced a rare brain tumour and missed much of Year 8, inspired his peers to get involved. Through their sock sales, the students raised over $2000, a testament to the generosity and spirit of the Christ Church community.
