Christ Church will be aiming to secure a 14th consecutive Four Schools Chess Tournament title when the competition takes place tomorrow.

Hosted at the School this year, the annual tournament brings together Christ Church, Guildford Grammar School, Scotch College and Hale School in a highly competitive contest of strategy, concentration and skill. Christ Church enters the event as defending champions, having won every tournament since 2012.

The team will be captained by Year 11 student Oscar Geo and includes Tommy Crage (Year 12), Ares Yin (Year 11), Archie Darlow (Year 11), Henry Stokes (Year 12), Tristan McDonald (Year 11), Kieran Tan (Year 12), Joshua Matzelle (Year 10), Ollie Matzelle (Year 12) and Thomas Greaves (Year 10).

Chess is a well-established part of co-curricular life at Christ Church, with students participating from the Early Learning Community through to Senior School. It helps students develop critical thinking, strategic planning, concentration and resilience. Senior School students can further hone their skills through Chess Club, which runs four times a week at lunchtime.

The team will be looking to continue its impressive record in the competition when play begins tomorrow. We wish them the very best of luck.
