During the holidays, the Christ Church Sailing Team travelled to Tasmania to compete in the 2026 Australian Secondary Schools Team Sailing Championships.

The team qualified for the national regatta after finishing second at the WA Schools Teams Sailing Regatta in April.

Competing against 26 of Australia’s leading school sailing teams, the boys faced four days of cold, challenging conditions. They rose to the occasion with determination and teamwork, finishing an impressive 11th overall.

The Christ Church team comprised eight students from Years 7 to 12:
Elliot Yong (Year 12), Yach Lee (Year 10), William Whitehead (Year 9), Felix Valentine (Year 10), Hayden Leighton (Year 7), Humphrey Hager (Year 7), Nicholas Cooper (Year 8) and Harry Kornweibel (Year 9).

A special thank you goes to Old Boy Sam Rose (’21), who coached the boys throughout the championships. His leadership and experience were invaluable, and it was wonderful to see him mentoring the next generation of Christ Church sailors.

The School also acknowledges Teacher in Charge of Sailing, Khiem Ly, whose planning and preparation in the lead-up to the championships played an important role in the team’s success. Thank you also to support staff Anna Freedman and Sue Bradley, and to the parents whose encouragement and behind-the-scenes support helped make the trip such a rewarding experience.
