One point. That was the difference between Jupp and Moyes at the end of last Friday’s House Athletics Carnival at WA Athletics Stadium.

With ideal conditions and a full day of track and field events, the competition stayed close throughout. By the time the final relays arrived, every point mattered as Houses battled for the title.

Jupp ultimately claimed the House Athletics title with 2212 points, finishing just one point ahead of Moyes on 2211. Craigie was close behind on 2202, leaving just 10 points separating the top three Houses.

The close finish was only part of the day’s story, with four School records also falling across the competition.

Will Gibson led the record-breaking performances, setting new marks in both the U/14 High Jump and Triple Jump. He cleared 1.75m in the High Jump, breaking the previous record of 1.71m set in 2015, before recording 12.40m in the Triple Jump to surpass the previous record of 11.68m, set in 2016.

In the Open 3000m, Cooper Smeulders shaved more than nine seconds off the previous School record, finishing in 8:43.82 to break the 8:53.74 record set in 2010.

The Year 8 4 x 100m Moyes relay team of Harry Hills-Wright, Jeremy Jin, Lachie Paterson and Noah Sun also set a new School record, finishing in 51.11 seconds to beat the previous record of 52.79 seconds, set by Noake in 2023.

A thrilling finish, four new school records and plenty of standout performances made for a memorable day of House Athletics. Congratulations to all students who competed and represented their Houses throughout the day.
