Christ Church celebrates 116th birthday
Published on: 19 February 2026
This morning, the entire school came together to celebrate the 116th birthday of Christ Church Grammar School. It was a special opportunity to reflect on our rich history and the strong sense of pride and belonging that defines our community. For 116 years, Christ Church has remained committed to educational excellence, nurturing both academic achievement and personal growth.
The day began with a Service of Rededication at Christ Church Claremont. Members of the official party, along with the School Prefects and Preparatory School leaders, attended the service, which was led by Archdeacon Peter Boyland. Through prayers, readings and the lighting of the Torch of Learning, we honoured the enduring spirit of the School. This tradition reflects our motto, “God is our leader, learning is our light,” reminding us that learning continues to guide and shape our shared purpose.
Following the service, the School community gathered in the Blue Gym to continue the celebrations. Our guest speaker, ultra-marathon swimmer Andy Donaldson, inspired students with reflections on perseverance, discipline and courage. Drawing on his achievement of becoming the first person to complete the Oceans Seven in a single year, he spoke about setting ambitious goals, embracing challenges, and showing resilience when striving for excellence, which are lessons that strongly connect with the journey of learning.
We also recognised staff members who have dedicated 15, 20 and 25 years of service to the School. We are grateful for their commitment and the lasting impact they have on generations of students. A list of these valued staff members can be found here.
