This week, the Year 9 Drama students enjoyed learning about the weird and wonderful world of Commedia dell’Arte.

In the opening unit of Year 9 Drama, the boys study the highly energetic and entertaining historical style of improvisational theatre that originated in Italy in the late middle ages.

The boys’ teacher Ms Duck said “The boys had a great time embodying the weird and wonderful characters of the Commedia universe.”

The workshops were directed by Shane McMullan from IntotheMask Theatre. Mr McMullan is a passionate and qualified drama teacher and master Commedia practitioner, who studied under Antonio Fava – one of the fathers of contemporary Commedia dell’Arte – in Reggio Emilia, Italy. Everything that he taught the boys was adapted from his method.
