Brothers Andrew (2008) and Simon Swan (2013) (left) have both been offered places at Cambridge University. Andrew completed a double degree in engineering and science at the University of Sydney in 2014. He will now study for his PhD in Mathematics at the Cambridge Centre for Analysis. His unconditional offer, for the four-year PhD, came after a gruelling application process and interview. The Mathematics Department at Cambridge University is world renowned and has been home to names like Newton and Hawking. Andrew is ecstatic.
Simon commenced his undergraduate degree in Natural Sciences in October 2014. He has since been awarded a British Petroleum Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Scholarship, which offers some financial support, membership of a prestigious group and opportunities for industry exposure throughout his undergraduate years. Simon has also achieved a place on a Cambridge team in the International Genetically Engineered Machinery Competition (iGEM 2015). The iGEM Competition is the premiere student competition in Synthetic Biology. Student teams are given a kit of biological parts and work over the summer to build biological systems and operate them in living cells and compete against other international universities.
Both young men will be residents at Clare College, founded in 1326 and the second oldest college in Cambridge.
