Geoffrey Thomas (1968) has won major accolades at the Australia New Zealand Aviation Media Awards. Geoffrey won Best News Story of the Year for a report he wrote that forecast the search for Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 would move further south. He also won Best Technical Story for a report about cultural factors causing the crash of Asiana Airlines Flight 214 at San Francisco in 2013. Geoffrey was also named runner-up Aviation Journalist of the Year. The awards were presented at a ceremony in Sydney before Christmas. Since turning to aviation journalism on a full-time basis in 1997, Geoffrey has 35 major national and international awards including being awarded the Royal Aeronautical Society Aerospace Journalist of the Year in 2009. Geoffrey is pictured with Roxley McLennan, Rolls Royce Defence Australia CEO, being presented with his Best Technical Story award.
