water poloThe First VI took it up to the old boys from the outset, leading 5-1 at one stage before the class of the old boys began to show, and clawed their way back into the contest. Year 11 student Sam Dobney was dominant in centre forward, scoring four goals and winning the inaugural OBA Best and Fairest medallion. 2014 co-captains and recent graduates Alex Brogan and Charlie Moorman put their old CCGS caps back on and rekindled the chemistry that made them a dominant duo for CCGS. Other old boys playing were brothers Nick (2004) and Richard O’Halloran (2009), Will Brogan (2012), Daniel Cullingford (2010), Nathen Quinsee (2014), Nick Dormer (2014) and reigning Premier League Best and Fairest Harry Paterson (2009). All old boy players were former PSA champions and all have represented either the State or been part of a national team at some stage.

The game ended in a draw in regular time and went to a penalty shootout with the old boys winning 5-3. Despite a courageous and promising performance from the First VI, in the end it was the brother duos of Alex and Will Brogan and Nick and Richard O’Halloran, as well as Harry Paterson, who found the back of the net with their penalty shots to defeat the Firsts.

The match was played in great spirit with the First VI far from overawed by the CCGS royalty in the pool. The old boys were impressed with the 2015 team and their prospects for the current season. CCGS has enjoyed an incredible run of success in water polo over the past seven years, winning three titles and finishing in the top two every year. It was a great reunion of past champions extending back to the very first title in 2002 and it is through this culture that water polo at CCGS will continue to prosper for many years to come.
