This week has provided valuable opportunities for our Year 12 students to connect and collaborate with peers from neighbouring girls’ schools. On Monday morning, we welcomed guest speaker Professor Igor Bray, Program Chair of Physics and Astronomy at Curtin University, for a special breakfast presentation on campus. Year 12 Physics students from Methodist Ladies’ College, Presbyterian Ladies’ College and Iona Presentation College joined Christ Church students for an engaging session on General Relativity, a new component of the 2026 WACE Physics syllabus. The presentation offered students meaningful insight into this complex and fascinating area of study. Later that day, our Year 12 Prefects continued the spirit of connection, crossing the fence to take part in a friendly netball match against MLC. This much-anticipated annual tradition provides a fun and relaxed way for students to build friendships, foster camaraderie and enjoy some light-hearted inter-school rivalry at the end of a busy term.

We also marked Autism Awareness Week, recognising the important and valued place people on the autism spectrum hold within our community. The Peter Moyes Centre coordinated a range of activities across the School, designed both to engage students and to deepen their understanding of how we can create a more inclusive and supportive environment for all.

On Tuesday, all Year 10 students attended the RAC bstreetsmart event at Optus Stadium, an impactful program highlighting the consequences of distracted driving, speeding, and drink or drug driving. At a time when many students are beginning to learn to drive, this experience plays a vital role in encouraging safer decision-making and reducing risk-taking behaviours on the road.

The rescheduled Head of the River was held yesterday, where we proudly secured second place in the Challenge Cup (First VIII) and third in the C.A. Hamer Cup (overall). Our rowers showed outstanding grit, determination and sportsmanship, and we commend their efforts across all crews. The depth of talent within our Rowing Program remains a defining strength, underpinning consistent performances across year groups. It has also been an exceptional Summer Sport season, with our First teams finishing in the top three across all codes. Our Water Polo team completed an undefeated season, securing the Dickinson Shield for the School.

Finally, I would like to wish all families a happy Easter and a restful holiday break. Term 1 is always a busy and energetic start to the year, and it has been wonderful to see how positively our students have settled into school life.

After a weather delay, the rowers finally took to the water yesterday with the 1st VIII delivering a commendable third-place finish. The team also secured equal second in the C.A. Hamer Cup, highlighting the depth and consistency of performance across the entire squad throughout the season. Congratulations to all staff, coaches and students for their dedication throughout the season. This result caps off a remarkable summer of sport, with top-three finishes across all summer codes – an outstanding achievement, and one that sets the school apart as the only one to accomplish this feat this season. The end of term brings a time for reflection on all that has happened. The 40-degree day memories are fading, and the cooler nights are being appreciated. The academic, cultural and sporting successes have been significant, and the efforts of students and staff are to be acknowledged and applauded.

The preparations for Term 2 are well underway, with winter codes hitting the training fields this week for all years. Week 1 sees a special ANZAC Day gala fixture against Scotch, with all teams (Senior and Junior) playing on Friday 24 April, and we are looking to be competitive across the codes. Please check your son’s sports schedule closely via the School Parent app in Week 1 for fixture details. A reminder that training starts on day 1 of Term 2.

Following the theme of ‘preparation’, it is important that winter uniforms are checked to ensure that they fit, and all the elements of the formal uniform are ready for day one, including a belt and the correct socks. Some of the younger students may need some assistance in tying their tie. Please note the uniform shop is open on Thursday 16 and Friday 17 April to make sure you are ready to go on day one. Please check the app for opening hours.

Individual portrait photos for Years 7 to 12, along with the Year 12 Cohort Photo, will be taken on Thursday 23 April. Your support in ensuring your son is well presented, with polished shoes, wearing his blazer, along with a haircut that meets our presentation standards, is greatly appreciated. You will have received information to allow you to place an online order for the individual photos.

During the holiday period, student devices will not be actively monitored by senior staff. However, please be assured that the school’s internet filtering systems will remain in place to help maintain a safe online environment.

Please note that Term 2 starts on Monday 20 April at 8.25am.

I wish everyone a pleasant Easter break and a safe and enjoyable holiday in the coming weeks.

This week, all students in the Preparatory School have been celebrating Autism Awareness Week. The boys are learning about neurodiversity and autism through the student bulletin and participating in activities during their library lessons.

Years 3 to 6 students took part in the House Cross Country Carnival on Wednesday at our Mount Claremont Playing Fields. The races began at a new time of 9.15am in an attempt to minimise the effect of the heat on our runners. All students received House points for participating, no matter where they finished in their race. The top 10 runners in each year level will represent Christ Church in the JPSSA Cross Country Carnival on Friday 26 June. Congratulations to Wardung House for taking out the 2026 Champion House and Kearla House for winning the Spirit Shield.

The Mid-Semester Progress Reports are made available to parents today. These reports provide families with insight into how your son is progressing within his Phase of Learning. The Mid-Semester Progress Report for students in Years 1 to 6 provides families with both the progress within each Learning Area and the effort displayed within those Learning Areas, with the progress being based upon completed assessments by the cohort. Pre-Primary students receive their Foundations for Learning as a follow-up to the reports provided to families from the On Entry Assessments. The reports for students in Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten focus on Outcome 1 (Identity) from the Early Years Learning Framework to provide you with feedback on how your son is progressing with interactions with his teachers, peers and developing his sense of self and agency when at school.

After an enjoyable Term 1 Summer Sport season, we make a quick transition to our Terms 2 and 3 Winter program. All Years 5 and 6 students commence their Winter Sport training this week. Boys are required to bring their specific uniform for their chosen sport, as well as mouthguards if they are required.

I would like to wish all families a safe and restful Easter break and Term 1 holiday. It has been a busy and successful term with a great number of learning activities, competitions, incursions, excursions, and camps to engage your son. I look forward to seeing all students on Monday 20 April in their winter uniform for the commencement of Term 2.
