This Sunday, the annual Rock at Rosemount concert returns, with our Rock Workshop bands from Years 3 to 12 ready to bring the house down. Over 100 students have been rehearsing throughout the year, supported by a dedicated team of staff who work behind the scenes to deliver what is always a high-energy celebration of rock music. This year’s audience will enjoy a mix of classic rock covers and original compositions written by our talented students. Tickets are still available here.

Music, public speaking, dance and drama are deeply embedded in the culture of Christ Church, and we are looking ahead to the construction of PERFORM, a state-of-the-art facility that will become the cultural heart of the School. PERFORM will be timetabled for all boys to enjoy and be a hub for creativity and collaboration. The facility will include a 470-seat auditorium, an ensemble room with river views, a panoramic orchestral rehearsal space, a recording studio, practice rooms, and a music technology classroom. These exceptional facilities will inspire future generations of Christ Church creatives. To learn more about this project and support with a donation, please click here.

This week, we celebrated Languages Week, with students engaging in a range of cultural activities. The Christ Church community is wonderfully diverse, and Languages Week provides a meaningful opportunity for students and staff to share, celebrate and learn more about one another’s cultures — a sincere thank you to the Languages Department for organising such a vibrant and enriching week. On Tuesday afternoon, our science students teamed up with peers from Methodist Ladies’ College for the annual titration competition. Also this week, our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students joined MLC students for a friendly netball match as part of MLC’s NAIDOC Week celebrations – a week we will be recognising in Term 3. It is always a pleasure to welcome MLC students to our campus and see our two communities intersecting in such a positive way.

Together, our community has collected more than 80 pairs of boots for Indigenous children in remote communities. At Christ Church, we understand the importance of participation in sport, and these generous contributions will help ensure more students have access to the equipment they need to get involved.

Next week, I will be presenting at the International Boys School Coalition (IBSC) conference in Belmont, Massachusetts, United States, on the topic of the future of Boys’ Schooling – proactive partnerships with Girls’ Schools.

On Monday evening, we were treated to some wonderful jazz performances at the Camelot Arts Club. Forty of our jazz students embraced the venue’s mood and entertained a captivated full house under the guidance of our jazz masters, Oli Taylor and James Chapman. The Music Department caps off the week with Rock at the Rosemount this Sunday afternoon, including bands from Preparatory School all the way to Year 12. If you are free, make note of the time in your calendar as I am sure the students would love to see as many people as possible there.

The House Teams Carnival will go ahead next Thursday afternoon, fine weather is forecast, and I would like to take the opportunity to remind students to wear their House t-shirts with their PE uniform and to ensure if they are playing AFL, to remember their mouthguard. We look forward to a fun-filled afternoon of inter-house rivalry.

Many thanks to the significant group of parents who responded to our survey on digital devices. The responses clearly indicate you are concerned about the effects of phones in learning environments and around the School. We will be changing procedures regarding the presence/use of phones and will communicate these changes before the start of Term 3.

Unfortunately, I have received a regular stream of complaints from members of the public about the dangerous behaviour of boys when riding escooters and ebikes, especially on pedestrian walkways. These complaints concern the safety of members of the public, as well as the boy’s safety. I would appreciate your support in having conversations with your sons about their respect of self and others when riding their scooters and bikes.

As we nudge slightly closer to the end of the term, there has been a reflection in the community about the Student Presentation Standards. We have worked consistently to improve the respect of presentation standards with the students, but still feel we have a way to go. Please use the last couple of weeks and the holiday period to check the condition of your son’s uniform, in particular his tie and blazer, and organise any necessary hair appointments. I want to take this opportunity to thank you as parents for your support of our expectations around presentation standards.

  • Semester 1 Report

As we approach the end of Semester 1, teachers are preparing your son’s end of semester report. These reports contain a range of information based upon work completed in class, work habits or learning dispositions and assessments completed. When assessing boys for their learning, teachers use a range of formative and summative assessment tools to understand where each boy is with his learning. Formative assessment is used to monitor progress during a teaching and learning cycle. It can be used to give a student feedback about how well they have performed or what they need to do to improve. It can also help a teacher judge how much students have learnt and whether all students are able to show their ability. Summative assessment is used to make a final determination of student achievement. It usually comes at the end of a teaching and learning cycle. Summative assessments should enable students to show their ability and may be in the form of projects, presentations or tests.

Each term, boys have the opportunity to represent the School at various inter-school events. During Week 9 of Term 2, the Independent Primary School Heads of Australia (IPSHA) Chess Competition will be held at Guildford Grammar School on Tuesday. Additionally, next Thursday, the JPSSA Cross Country Carnival takes place at Guildford Grammar School for boys in Years 3 to 6. We wish all boys representing Christ Church all the best for these upcoming events.

A reminder to all families that this week is the last week for all Co-Curricular clubs for Term 2. Parents are welcome to sign up for Term 3 clubs from Tuesday 24 June (more information will be provided closer to this date).

Next week is the last week of Term 2, and I would like to remind all families about the staggered finish times for next Friday.

Pre-Kindy to Pre-Primary – 12.00pm
Year 1 – 12.10pm
Years 2 to 3 – 12.20pm
Years 4 to 6 – 12.30pm

The Sunset Club will remain open until 6.00pm for those families requiring this service.

Congratulations to our BGM award winners!
