On Monday evening, we were delighted to welcome Dr Justin Coulson to campus for a thought-provoking presentation on child development and behaviour. Nearly 300 parents gathered in the Chapel to gain valuable insights into their children’s growth and how best to support them as they navigate the challenges of growing up. Dr Coulson is one of many expert presenters we look forward to welcoming this year as part of the Wynne Centre for Health and Wellbeing’s ongoing series, so please keep an eye out for future workshops and events.

This week, we also mark National Reconciliation Week – an important time to reflect, engage in meaningful conversations, and celebrate the rich culture, history, and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. On Wednesday, students came together for a respectful flag-raising ceremony, followed by a spirited game of 9-a-side football on the oval.

Recently, we hosted a special information session to share more about our exciting PERFORM project with members of our community. This initiative represents a unique opportunity to deliver a world-class facility that will enrich the learning and creative experiences of our students. It was a pleasure to connect with families and speak further about our vision. To learn more about PERFORM and our other key initiatives, please click here.

As we approach the mid-term break, I wish everyone a restful and refreshing few days. This is a welcome opportunity to pause and recharge, especially for our Year 11 and 12 students, who have been working diligently throughout their exams. I look forward to welcoming everyone back next Tuesday.

  • PSA Indigenous round

  • World’s Great Shave

Last weekend saw some solid wins in badminton, cross country, hockey and soccer against Trinity for the annual PSA Indigenous round in recognition of National Reconciliation Week. The First XVII Football team from both schools took part in a smoking ceremony and Welcome to Country before the commencement of play. The students looked great running out in the Indigenous jumper designed by Year 12 Nhanda Yamatji Noongar student Kayde Kelly with input from Bodie Cox, Tyreece Dickson, Ricky Trott. Kayde’s design was based on links to his Yamatji heritage. You can view the jumper here.

The Christ Church community is again demonstrating its commitment to wellbeing, service, and action, with students and staff uniting for two outstanding causes this term: the Push-Up Challenge and The World’s Greatest Shave.

The Push-Up Challenge – Wednesday 4 to Saturday 28 June
From Week 6, students and staff will take on the Push-Up Challenge, a national initiative that raises funds and awareness for mental health. Participants aim to complete 3,249 push-ups over 25 days, representing the number of lives lost to suicide in Australia in 2022.

Throughout Weeks 6 to 9, tutor groups will engage in daily push-up sessions, fostering a spirit of healthy competition, physical activity, and meaningful discussion around mental health and resilience. Led by the Student Wellbeing Committee, this initiative invites all members of the Christ Church community to get involved by joining their House team on the Push-Up Challenge app.

The committee has created a dedicated Christ Church community space, allowing students, staff, and families to sign up under their individual Houses, track their progress, and raise funds for one of three mental health charities. This structure adds a fun, competitive edge while keeping the focus firmly on connection, wellbeing, and supporting a meaningful cause.

The World’s Greatest Shave
In Week 7, a courageous group of Year 12 students, as well as a few brave staff members, will take part in The World’s Greatest Shave, raising funds for the Leukaemia Foundation to support families facing blood cancer and fund vital research. We invite you to get behind the students making this bold and generous gesture.

We look forward to seeing students across all year levels get involved and encourage families to show their support in any way they can.

Wishing you all a restful mid-term break and enjoyable family time, especially for our Boarding community, and I look forward to having a full complement of boys back on campus.

A reminder that ICAS testing will be taking place during Term 3, commencing in Week 3, and is designed to target students’ higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills in English, Writing, Mathematics, Science, Spelling and Digital Technologies. The assessments are suitable for boys wishing to extend themselves academically and take up the personal challenge of competing in an international assessment. All ICAS assessments will be online and are available for boys from Years 2 to 6. Please note that previous correspondence included an incorrect date. The Mathematics test will be conducted on Wednesday, August 27. For information regarding registration, sitting dates and the purchasing of practice papers, please click here.

Data plays a very important role in the decision-making process for our teaching and learning cycles. Through a range of data collected from standardised assessments such as NAPLAN and Progressive Achievement Testing (PAT) and School developed assessments, as well as observations and the collection of work samples, we are able to gain insights into boys’ strengths, needs, and progress. The collection and understanding of data provide us with insights into developing programs and lesson content that is challenging but also targets gaps in boys’ learning. As a School, having access to and understanding data allows us to be responsive to the needs of the individual, class and cohort.

As always, the Preparatory School continues to be a busy place for our boys. This week our Cross Country team participated in the JPSSA Cross Country carnival, Reconciliation Week was celebrated with Olman Walley visiting our ELC, boys participated in the Years 5 and 6 Orienteering Competition in Mundaring and our Year 2 classes held their Open Classrooms.

Thank you to all boys for their efforts so far this term and I wish all families a restful mid-term break.
