Welcome back to Term 2. I hope the break provided an opportunity for rest and renewal after a busy and fulfilling Term 1.

Over the holidays, we were delighted to welcome the Australian Men’s Water Polo team to our campus as they prepared for their Oceania Qualifier matches against New Zealand. It was a particular pleasure to see Old Boy John Hedges (’16) return as part of the national squad — a proud moment for our community and a testament to the pathways our students can follow beyond school. Meanwhile, two teams of Christ Church students took part in the WA Schools Teams Sailing Regatta, held at Nedlands Yacht Club. Competing against schools from across the state, both teams performed exceptionally well. Our CCGS Gold team claimed first place and the Ron Tough Trophy. CCGS Blue also impressed, finishing in third place. These outstanding results reflect the depth of talent within our sailing program. We now look ahead to July, when the CCGS Gold team will represent Western Australia at the National Schools Team Sailing Regatta. Click here to read more.

Looking ahead to this weekend, the winter sport season gets underway with our first fixture against Hale. Our students have been working hard over the break, and I know they are eager to put their training into action. Best of luck to all teams competing.

In addition, our Year 11 students will attend the annual Year 11 Dance on Saturday held this year at the Royal Perth Yacht Club. This special evening offers students the chance to enjoy time with their peers and celebrate their penultimate year of school in a memorable setting.

On Sunday we will welcome our Year 9 parents to the first Sundowner for the term. The Sundowner provides an opportunity for parents to connect and hear more about the exciting experiences their sons will encounter during their upcoming Outdoor Education program at Kooringal. Over eight days, the boys will take on a range of challenging and rewarding activities, including expedition bushwalking and navigation, canoeing, a ropes course, rogaining, a solo experience, and community service.

I look forward to the term ahead and all the opportunities it holds for our students, staff and families.

A warm welcome back to Term 2! Hopefully everyone is well rested and refreshed for another busy term.

Although we are still enjoying some summer-like weather, Term 2 marks the start of the winter uniform phase. I ask for the support of all parents in ensuring that students arrive at school each day with a high standard of presentation. All students are expected to wear their blazer, to and from school, and use it along with a school jumper, if required, to keep warm. In addition, polished shoes, a black belt, and a haircut that meets our presentation standards are essential for showing respect and pride in the school. It was wonderful to see the majority of students looking well-presented during their individual student photos today.

During the holidays parents will have received academic Term 1 Interim Reports. Overall, these indicate that most students have made a very positive start to the academic year, but in some cases, there is concern about effort in academic performance. It is important that students use this report, and in consultation with classroom teachers, tutors and parents, to ensure issues are resolved promptly for better outcomes. For students, this should mean a review of their goals set at the beginning of the year, and for some this may mean the reassessment and restating of these goals for the coming term. What truly matters is that students take responsibility for their performance and manage their time to be organised and prepared for the challenges ahead.

This Friday and Saturday we play Hale in our first winter fixture. It will be great for the students and parents to attend these fixtures and support teams in the respective codes. This is an ideal time to reflect on the PSA Code of Behaviour in Sport, which emphasises that sport not only promotes physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle, but also helps individuals face challenges, overcome adversity, and develop key qualities such as self-discipline, perseverance, selflessness, and obedience – all while significantly building self-esteem. Good sportsmanship is an integral part of all that is best about sport. It includes a generous spirit, true respect for others and the game, graciousness, and a steadfast resistance to temptations such as attempting to gain an unfair advantage. Term 2 is the beginning of invasive sports such as Rugby, Soccer, Football and Hockey, and as such, please read the following policy regarding the requirement that all students playing contact sports wear a custom fitted mouth guard.

Welcome back to the start of a new term and I congratulate all the boys for their excellent start to Term 2. It was great to see all the boys seamlessly walk back into the Preparatory School and quickly remember their daily routines and recommence their class timetable. Each day the boys navigate a timetable that provides a range of learning experiences that challenge and place a level of expectation that is appropriate for each boy.

At the end of last term, families received their son’s Term 1 Interim Report, providing a snapshot of learning progress so far this year. Interim reports are an important checkpoint, offering early insights into strengths and areas for growth. Thank you for taking the time to review these reports and discuss them with your son. As we move further into the year, our focus now shifts towards preparing the Semester 1 Report. This comprehensive report will reflect achievement across the curriculum, work habits, and personal development. It will provide a fuller picture of your son’s growth and learning journey during the first half of the year. We look forward to continuing to work in partnership with you to support each son’s progress.

Term 2 sees the commencement of our JPSSA winter sports fixtures for Years 5 and 6 against Hale, which includes AFL, Soccer, Rugby, Hockey, and Martial Arts. All boys are required to wear mouth guards, with the exception of Martial Arts. The boys are looking forward to the winter season commencing and training will start in Week 2. For details regarding the Week 1 fixture, please click here.

Best wishes for the term ahead!
