It was great to see our Quads swimming team come home with a victory on Tuesday night in one of the closest results for a decade. Now they will be tapering and fine tuning in their quest to challenge for the PSA title next Thursday evening at HBF Stadium. The School’s sporting teams have been extremely competitive with all senior teams performing well over the last couple of weekends against Hale and Trinity, respectively. Our form is such that Christ Church is in line to secure the Tennis, Water Polo, Cricket, and Swimming cups in the second half of the term if we continue to perform at the highest level. With the Guildford and Wesley fixture to finish the season, along with the Head of the River regatta on 18 March there is still a lot of sport to be played to finish out the summer season.
Last week saw the first round of the House Arts Cup, which is a component of the inter House internal competition, the Beatty Cup, which runs each year to determine the champion House. The House Arts Cup comprises three areas of competition; public speaking, chess, and eSports. The competition provides a fantastic opportunity for boys from the Houses to try their skills in a different field of competition. Chess is the biggest component, and we need to run two chess halls with 108 boards to accommodate the size of the competition each round. The competition has three rounds, a semi-final and grand final round, concluding in early Term 3.
As we finish Week 5 of Term 1 and look forward to a long weekend, we encourage the boys to take stock of their position in all subjects and use this time to get down to the business of learning, particularly our Year 11 and 12 boys. This break is an important opportunity for parents to check on your son’s progress and to discuss with him how he has found the first five weeks of the school year.
On 13 and 14 March an immunisation team will be at Christ Church to administer several immunisations to our Year 7 students. Please go the the Year Group Notices and follow the instructions to provide consent as soon as possible.
It is also important for boys to get their hair cut if it is getting too long and untidy. For some boys it is a week or two overdue, so it would be appreciated, if parents can ensure their son is compliant with the school’s presentation standards on their return from the mid-term break.
Lastly, I would like to highlight mouthguard fittings, being held on Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16 March. Having a mouthguard fitted for certain sports is a requirement for participation. Please see booking information in year group notices.
