Last week was very eventful as we celebrated National Boarding Week and IDAHOBIT Week, saw the conclusion of the Year 8 combined Cape to Cave programs, and finished by watching a sea of colour race around Kings Park in the Inter House Cross Country Competition, with Craigie taking out line honours.
This week sees the beginning of the Year 9 nine-day Outdoor Education camps at Kooringal. Students in Year 10 are now entering a phase where their academic performance will be assessed and form the basis for decisions about their Year 11 subject selections. For some, this will elevate the need to make better use of the resources available to them as they aim for improved outcomes. This week also marks the beginning of the Year 11 and 12 Semester 1 exams.
We look forward to celebrating the Indigenous Round throughout the PSA fixtures against Guildford this weekend, where our AFL firsts boys will run out onto the grounds wearing the Indigenous Round jumper designed by Year 9 Nhanda Yamatji Noongar student Kayde Kelly. The 1st XVIII Football team partnered with Indigenous and Torres-Strait students to paint their football boots for the upcoming Indigenous Round this weekend. The students shared the stories and meaning behind the designs with the 1st XVIII players as an act of reconciliation.
As the winter sport season continues and the daylight hours fade, it is important to ensure arrangements regarding collection of boys after training, be it at school or the training venue, are clearly understood by all concerned. Supervising staff members on bus duty after training have been advised not to leave any boys unattended at sporting venues. Please note that there is always an ‘after-school duty’ staff member available on campus until 5.45pm, who can be contacted on 9442 1555 should you encounter problems. Details regarding all Friday and Saturday school sport fixtures, including bus departure and return times, can be found under the sport section in CCGS World.
We are experiencing the arrival of the cold and flu season and some COVID-19 cases in our senior school. As parents, can I please ask you to encourage your son/s to take responsibility for personal hygiene by washing their hands regularly, using the sanitiser that is still being provided by the school and to be mindful about physical contact during the school day. If your son is displaying flu-like symptoms, please keep them home and test for COVID-19 as a precaution.
